SINGAPURA CATS

The smallest breed of domestic cat, Singapura cats are popular for their appealing personalities and affectionate natures.

Singapura Cats

If you take the time to build a strong relationship with a Singapura, you'll have a devoted, trusting companion for life.

The Singapura is still comparatively rare.

History

Singapura is the Malaysian word for Singapore. The streets of Singapore are the origin of this breed.

These small brown cats with ticked coats, disparagingly known as 'drain' or 'sewer' cats by the island's inhabitants, have been observed on the island of Singapore for many years.

Singapura Cats

It was accepted for championship status in CFA in 1988 -- the same year the first Singapuras were imported into the UK from the United States. The breed has remained rare.

Singapura cats are the smallest of all the recognized cat breeds. Females can be as small as four pounds in adulthood, males run about six pounds.

Description

The Singapura is a shorthaired cat distinguished by its large eyes and its warm beige, brown-ticked coat. The coat is silky, fine and short.

Singapura Cats

The coat colour is called either sepia agouti or brown ticked agouti; despite the different names, it is the same colour and the only colour in which Singapuras are found.

When standing, a Singapura cat's body, legs and the floor should form a square.

The only acceptable eye colours are hazel, yellow or green. The eyes and ears must be large. The legs of this cat are thick and muscular.

Although small, they are muscular cats, almost stocky in build. They are not delicate or "miniature" cats.

Characteristics and Temperament

They have soft, gentle voices and enjoy being near their favourite people. They are mischievous, gentle and outgoing.

Singapura Cats

Singapura cats are placid, undemanding and good-natured. Their reserved temperament can be overcome with patience and gentle handling.

This is an active cat who loves to be with his humans. He gets along great with other animals and the female is very loving and maternal with her litters.
